Continuing Education Committee - LADC
Committee Charge: The role of the LADC Continuing Education Committee is to deliberate, plan, develop, and organize continuing education workshops for LADC’s to help them fulfill their licensing recertification requirements on an ongoing basis.
Continuing Education Workshops: The Continuing Education Committee, working within the structure of MCCA, shall develop and coordinate workshops that meet the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy Standards for Approval.
The focus shall be on topics that pertain to the 12 Core Functions. Three to six continuing education workshop topics will be scheduled for each year. The Continuing Education Committee members will be responsible for:

establishing a date and time for their assigned workshop

finding relevant workshop presenters for the chosen topic

finding workshop space

serving as “host” for the workshop

assuring that any other activities pertaining to the workshop are carried out
The Continuing Education Committee will meet at least twice per year to accomplish its mission. Committee meetings are 2-hours in length. Workshops are 3-hours. Total time commitment for the year is about 12 hours.
Subd. 4. LADC Continuing Education Standards for approval as set by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy;
In order to obtain clock hour credit for a continuing education activity, the activity must:
- constitute an organized program of learning;
- reasonably be expected to advance the knowledge and skills of the alcohol and drug counselor;
- pertain to subjects that directly relate to the practice of alcohol and drug counseling and the core functions of an alcohol and drug counselor, or the Rules of Professional Conduct in Minnesota Rules, part 4747.1400;
- be conducted by individuals who have education, training, and experience and are knowledgeable about the subject matter; and
- be presented by a sponsor who has a system to verify participation and maintains attendance records for three years, unless the sponsor provides dated evidence to each participant with the number of clock hours awarded.
